In short · Updated

Momentum schedules anesthesiologists, CRNAs, anesthesiologist assistants and residents across hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, OB and off-site locations such as endoscopy. It applies your call and post-call rules, staffs cardiac, pediatric and OB lines only with clinicians you approve for them, counts late shifts, weekends and holidays against fairness goals, and lets clinicians request time off and swap shifts from their phone. It schedules people, not surgical cases or operating rooms.

What makes anesthesia scheduling hard

An anesthesia schedule changes every day. Each site and service needs the right mix of anesthesiologists and CRNAs, call must be followed by the right time off, subspecialty coverage has to hold on nights and weekends, and late shifts, holidays and vacation weeks need to be shared in a way the group accepts. In many groups all of this lives in a spreadsheet and in the head of one scheduler.

  • Staffing every hospital, surgery center and off-site location with the right mix of clinicians
  • Applying call, post-call and rest rules without checking each one by hand
  • Keeping cardiac, pediatric, OB and regional coverage on nights and weekends
  • Sharing late shifts, weekends, holidays and vacation weeks fairly

What Momentum does for an anesthesia group

Every site and service, staffed from your rules

Hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), labor and delivery, and non-operating-room anesthesia (NORA) sites such as endoscopy or interventional radiology each have their own lines and hours. Each clinician is eligible only for the work you approve, so cardiac lines go to the cardiac team and OB nights to those who cover OB. The automatic schedule fills the lines from those rules and lists any shift it could not fill before you publish.

The timeline view shows each site’s coverage hour by hour and flags gaps and overlaps, such as an OB night with nobody on it.

Anesthesia call schedule and post-call rules

In-house call, home call and backup call are separate lines, each with its own counters. Rules such as a day off after in-house call, a cap on consecutive call nights or a minimum rest between shifts are set once and applied every time the schedule is generated, and validation lists every rule a draft breaks before it goes out.

For residents, set maximum hours and minimum rest to match your program’s duty-hour limits; validation lists any breach. Our ACGME duty-hours guide sums up the current rules and the 2028 proposal.

CRNA and anesthesiologist assistant scheduling

CRNAs and AAs have their own lines, contracts and maximums next to the anesthesiologists. Reconciliation compares planned and worked hours each pay period, an overtime policy attached to each contract values hours beyond it, and payroll exports carry the totals on. Overtime policies are switched on with your rollout.

Fair call, weekends and holidays

Late shifts, weekends, holidays and call are counted for every clinician. Goals are set by role, so CRNAs are measured against CRNAs and anesthesiologists against anesthesiologists, and the equity report shows who is above or below target before the schedule goes out.

Time off, swaps and open shifts

Clinicians send time-off requests and preferences from the app. When you approve a request, Momentum lists the shifts it touches and lets you clear or keep each one. Gives, takes and swaps go through the web or mobile app and wait for administrator approval; open shifts go to the job board, where eligible clinicians bid.

Where Momentum fits

Momentum schedules people. It does not schedule surgical cases, assign operating rooms or replace your anesthesia information system, billing system or EHR. It includes time and attendance and payroll exports, publishes to Outlook, and its iPhone and Android app signs in with Microsoft and shows the schedule offline.

Anesthesia teams already schedule with Momentum

Anesthesia groups and hospital anesthesia departments in the United States and Canada build their schedules in Momentum. In all, more than 250 healthcare organizations use Momentum across more than 1,000 sites in nine countries.

Frequently asked questions

Does Momentum schedule surgical cases or operating rooms?

No. Momentum schedules anesthesia clinicians: who covers which site, service and call shift, and when. Case scheduling and OR booking stay in your surgical scheduling system or EHR.

Can Momentum apply post-call rules automatically?

Yes. Rules such as a day off after in-house call or a cap on consecutive call nights are set once and applied every time the schedule is generated, and validation lists any rule a draft breaks.

Can anesthesiologists, CRNAs and AAs share one schedule?

Yes. Anesthesiologists, CRNAs, anesthesiologist assistants and residents are scheduled together, each with their own contract, eligibility, maximums and fairness goals.

Can clinicians swap shifts from their phone?

Yes. They request a give, take or swap from the mobile app or the web, and an administrator approves each change. Notifications go by email, in-app message or mobile, as each person sets them.

How long does it take to get started?

Each rollout includes setting up your rules, importing your current schedule, connecting the systems you need and training your schedulers. Depending on scope, going live takes from a few days for the lightest setups to a few months for a multi-site group.

What does Momentum cost?

Plans start at USD 5.99 per user per month, in four tiers: Starter, Plus, Pro and Enterprise. The pricing page lists what each one includes.
