In short · Updated
Momentum schedules OB/GYNs, laborists, certified nurse-midwives, nurse practitioners, nurses and medical assistants across hospitals and offices. It keeps labor and delivery covered day and night with the clinicians you approve, applies your post-call rules, staffs clinic days at each office, counts nights, weekends and holidays against fairness goals, and lets everyone request time off and trade shifts from their phone. It schedules people, not patients, deliveries or operating rooms.
Why OB/GYN schedules are hard to build
Labor and delivery never closes. Someone has to be in house every hour, with backup call behind them, and the day after a 24-hour shift has to stay clear. At the same time each office needs its physicians, midwives and nurse practitioners on clinic days, and nights, weekends and holidays have to be shared in a way the group accepts. Practices with several offices, or a fertility program, add weekend and holiday coverage of their own.
- Covering labor and delivery and triage every hour, with backup call
- Keeping the day after a 24-hour shift clear
- Staffing each office with the right physicians, midwives and NPs
- Sharing nights, weekends and holidays fairly
What Momentum does for an OB/GYN group
Labor and delivery, covered day and night
In-house L&D shifts, OB triage, laborist or OB hospitalist shifts and backup call are separate lines, each open only to the clinicians you approve. The shift view groups each day into your own blocks, such as day and night, and the timeline view shows coverage hour by hour, with gaps and overlaps highlighted.
Rules such as a day off after a 24-hour shift, a cap on consecutive nights or a minimum rest between shifts are set once and applied every time the schedule is generated, and validation lists every rule a draft breaks before it goes out.

Offices, clinic days and mixed teams
Each office is a line with its own hours, and eligibility can be limited to certain weekdays, so a physician who works at the north office on Tuesdays is scheduled there only on Tuesdays. Physicians, certified nurse-midwives, nurse practitioners, nurses and medical assistants share one schedule, each with their own contracts and rules.
Women’s health clinic networks and fertility practices can use the same lines and rules for clinicians and clinic staff, including weekend and holiday coverage.
Fair nights, weekends and holidays
Nights, weekends, holidays and call are counted for every clinician against goals you set by role, which can be weighted for part-time schedules. Holidays are set as prime dates, so Thanksgiving and Christmas can be tracked on their own, and the equity report shows who is above or below target before the schedule goes out.
Time off, swaps and open shifts
Clinicians send time-off requests and preferences from the app. When you approve a request, Momentum lists the shifts it conflicts with and lets you clear or keep each one. Gives, takes and swaps go through the web or the mobile app and wait for administrator approval; open shifts can go to the job board, where eligible clinicians bid.
Where Momentum fits
Momentum schedules people. It does not book patient appointments, track deliveries, schedule procedures or operating rooms, or replace your EHR, and it holds no patient data. It does not track licenses or hospital privileges. Around the schedule, Momentum adds time and attendance, payroll exports, Outlook calendars, Microsoft sign-in and file or SFTP imports.
OB/GYN teams already schedule with Momentum
OB/GYN departments and practices in the United States build their schedules in Momentum, as do a women’s health clinic network and a fertility practice. In all, more than 250 healthcare organizations use Momentum across more than 1,000 sites in nine countries.
